Mission Update

In September, Mission of the Month giving is directed to our link missionaries with CMS.

We support Mal and Charissa Forrest, with children Aidan, Sasha and Toby, serving the International Anglican Church in Amman, Jordan.

Our newest link is with S & K, with their daughter, J learning local language to serve gospel-zero Buddhist Asia.

And of course, we’ve been blessed by the recent ‘home assignment’ fortnight of visits from D & L, with their son, M, home from Asia, where D teaches English in a university and they both mentor local church leaders and members.

This is also a good time to ask you if you’ve considered attending the CMS Summer School. However not everyone knows what it’s about. One of our young staff colleagues said to me that “Until last year I personally didn’t realise that it was a conference for everyone, not just missionaries or family friends of missionaries.”

It’s a fantastic, week-long time of teaching and fellowship with a couple of thousand globally-minded Christians at the Katoomba Convention site. The children’s programs, which run from crèche though to senior high, are exceptional. (And you often need to book fast to avoid missing out!) There are great chances to hear first hand from CMS missionaries on the home assignments about what life on the field is really like.

This year the main preacher is Gary Millar, Chairman of The Gospel Coalition Australia, on the book of Jeremiah. The international speaker is Dr Peter Thein Nyunt, a native of Myanmar, and a convert from Buddhism.

The conference runs from 5-11 January 2019, although you can also attend part-time. More information and register via http://www.nswsummerschool.org.au – you’ll be part of dozens and dozens of St Michael’s people who go.

Parish Council Update – August
  • As always, we opened with Bible reading and prayer, this time led by David Pirie.
  • We approved purchase of new domain names for our website, to be refreshed later this year, and received an update on the new logo project.
  • Our out going Women’s Ministry Trainee visited before leaving for Tanzania, and thanked the parish for the chance to serve, train and learn alongside Stacey.
  • Youth Minister, Andy Stevenson, presented an engaging report of encouraging highlights from youth and children’s ministry over the last 12 months. He highlighted a couple of new children’s ministry initiatives – an outreach event and a primary camp
  • Parish Council is going to trial use of project managers for a couple of specific tasks on a contract basis and expects the updated Conservation Management Plan to assist.
  • Repairs are being done to concrete fence around the Bishop’s office, with some re-pointing mortar work to occur on cathedral and hall.
  • We are working on reviewing and consolidating Parish Council policies and this month approved updated Remuneration and Financial Controls Policies.
